Frantic is a masterclass in Hitchcockian suspense, with Harrison Ford trading his usual action-hero confidence for the desperation of an ordinary man searching for his missing wife in a city he barely knows. Director Roman Polanski keeps the tension simmering throughout, turning the streets of Paris into a maze of confusion and danger. Adding to the atmosphere is a superb score by Ennio Morricone, whose understated compositions perfectly complement the film's sense of paranoia and unease. Smart, stylish and relentlessly gripping, Frantic is an often-overlooked thriller that deserves to be mentioned alongside the best of the genre.
