Long before prestige video-game adaptations became the norm, there was Mortal Kombat: Conquest—a gloriously over-the-top syndicated TV series that attempted to expand the mythology of the Mortal Kombat universe on a weekly budget.

Released in the UK as a series of unusual DVD compilations rather than a proper season set, the Mortal Kombat: Conquest DVDs have become cult collector's items among fans of the franchise. Unfortunately, they're also a frustrating way to experience the show. Rather than presenting the episodes in broadcast order, many of the UK releases stitched unrelated episodes together around specific characters or themes, making the storyline difficult to follow. Some releases even edited episodes together and omitted transitions, creating a viewing experience that can feel confusing for newcomers.
